The Process

Information Results maintains its own servers 24x7 in the most sophisticated data center in the northeastern United States.  We have excess capacity that varies from time to time.  We make that excess capacity inexpensively available to businesses who need a home for one, two or more servers.

The process for hosting one or more servers with us is quick and easy, and can usually be completed within 5-7 business days.

1. Quote Request - Complete the Quote Request form, where you will describe the server(s) you would like to host with us, and provide information about your company.
2. Quote Review - Within 1 business day, we'll prepare a quote, which we then review together with you.  At this time we can add or remove servers and options, to meet your business need.
3. Contract and Payment - We prepare the contract, review with your team, and complete the signatures.  We accept major credit cards.
4. Setup and Testing - Per your schedule, we will transport your server(s) to the data center for setup.  Before leaving the data center, we will verify connectivity with someone from your organization.

How is Bandwidth Measured?

Bandwidth is measured in Mbps, which stands for "Megabits Per Second." One megabit is equal to one million bits or 1,000 kilobits.

While "megabit" sounds similar to "megabyte," a megabit is roughly one eighth the size of a megabyte (since there are eight bits in a byte). Mbps is used to measure data transfer speeds of high connections, such as Ethernet and cable modems.

What do "95th Percentile" and "Burstable Bandwidth" Mean?

The 95th percentile says that 95% of the time, your usage is below this amount.

When ISPs bill "burstable" internet bandwidth, the 95th percentile usually cuts off the top 5% of bandwidth peaks in each month. In this way infrequent peaks are ignored, and the customer is charged in a fairer way. The reason this statistic is so useful in measuring data throughput is that it gives a very accurate picture of the cost of the bandwidth. 

From what geographic area do you accept colocation customers?

We can accept new customers from anywhere in the United States. 

• Within the 6 New England states: We will pickup your server within 25 miles of our Burlington, MA office, or, you can drop off your server to our office (by appointment please).  Additional fees apply for pickup over 25 miles from our Burlington, MA office.
• Outside of New England: If you can get your server to us safely, we can host it for you. 

What size (height) servers can you accept?

We currently accept 1U and 2U servers.

• 1U = 1.75" of Vertical Rack Space
• 2U = 3.5" of Vertical Rack Space

Where is your Data Center located?

Our data center is located at 400 Minuteman Road in Andover, Massachusetts.

Who owns and operates your Data Center?

We lease rack space from NaviSite, who owns and operates 15 data centers around the world.  NaviSite's largest data center is in Andover, a 52,000 sq. ft. facility with SAS70 compliance and 100% uptime since inception.

• Server Hosting:
  • 1 1U Server: $99/month
  • 1 2U Server: $179/month
  • Minimum lease term: 1 year
  • Discounts for multiple servers and longer leases
• Bandwidth:
  • $100/month per 1 Mbps based on 95% percentile. 
    • Minimum monthly charge for bandwidth is $25/month for 0.25 Mbps.
  • Up to 5 IP addresses included at no extra charge.
• Power:
  • Costs for power are determined on a case by case basis.
  • Let us know the power specifications (in Amps) of your server.
• Setup:
  • $199 one-time charge (1 server)
    • $50 additional for each server
  • We will pickup your server within 25 miles of our Burlington, MA office, or, you can drop off your server to our office (by appointment please). 
    • Additional fees apply for pickup over 25 miles from our Burlington, MA office.
